After being sold for a mere dollar and getting obliterated by the MMO-competition, Richard Garriot’s pet project Tabula Rasa will be shutting down in Febuary 2009. Ironically, it’ll shut down the same month as Hellgate: London - another overly hyped MMORPG that failed to deliver the goods and is now firmly counting down the days till its put out of out its misery. Have fun sharing the grave, guys.

To the Tabula Rasa Community,

Last November we launched what we hoped would be a ground breaking sci-fi MMO. In many ways, we think we’ve achieved that goal. Tabula Rasa has some unique features that make it fun and very different from every other MMO out there. Unfortunately, the fact is that the game hasn’t performed as expected. The development team has worked hard to improve the game since launch, but the game never achieved the player population we hoped for.

So it is with regret that we must announce that Tabula Rasa will end live service on February 28, 2009.

Before we end the service, we’ll make Tabula Rasa servers free to play starting on January 10, 2009.

We can assure you that through the next couple of months we’ll be doing some really fun things in Tabula Rasa, and we plan to make staying on a little longer worth your while. For more details about what we are doing for Tabula Rasa players, please click here.

Rockstar’s GTA IV can now be pre-purchased on Steam, whats more, you will get a free copy of GTA: Vice City (immediatley playable) when you order the game. Pretty neat! Best part however, is that GTA IV isn’t limited to US customers only and can now be brought even if you live outside of NA.

Ubisoft’s upcoming Prince of Persia title has gone gold. The game has been sent off to manufacturing plants to replicate the DVDs and get ready for retail.

EA Sports’ Fight Night Round 4 will get its first public showing during the Spike TV Video Game Awards on December 14.

The “ultimate boxing match up” from EA Canada does have at least one thing going for it — the inclusion of video game boxing legend Mike Tyson. His style is impetuous! there is a  leaked shaky-cam footage from the closed doors event of this game doing rounds on Internet, but thankfully we’ll have some quality footage to analyze soon.

EA’s promised it’ll be the most realistic Fight Night yet, thanks in part to a new physics-based animation system that “allows for missed punches, glancing punches, knockout blows and for the first time ever, rough and tumble inside fighting”.

Surf your favorite sites while playing the most popular PC games, watch videos, check E-mail, read news while gaming, yes GotGame has introduced a new web browser ‘Rouge’ for gamers who would like to switch from gaming to other PC tasks, it comes more of a help to those player’s hooked on to Multi player games online, waiting for other players to join, or if their net connection gets bogged down due to some reasons.

This is a web browser based on WebKit and Adobe’s AIR platform that integrates directly into most of today’s popular gamer, allowing users to swap between their game and the web with a single hotkey. Gamers will be able to check their Email, listen to Pandora, watch Hulu videos, or casually browse the web at their leisure, jumping back into the game within seconds whenever they need to (the browser supports opacity, so it’s easy to tell when you need to swap your attention).

It’s possible to accomplish similar multitasking by placing games in ‘Windowed’ mode (which doesn’t make them take up the full screen), but this makes games prone to crashing and poor performance. Conversely GotGame says that Rogue should run perfectly fine with most games, and should only slightly affect performance (though the effect will increase significantly if you watch Flash-based movies like Hulu).

While it may seem counter intuitive to non-gamers, GotGame Rogue is a great idea - I would have loved to have had it during my gaming years (instead I was forced to sit a TV next to my computer monitor). Provided the app is as stable as GotGame claims, it will probably do very well. Other players in this space include Xfire, which offers an in-game application for socializing with other gamers.

Ubisoft has confirmed some yummy/juicy/icky/gooey DLC for upcoming Prince of Persia title.

Ubisoft confirmed today that it plans to release Downloadable Content for its upcoming Prince of Persia video game post-launch. Full details and release date to be announced in the near future.

“Our intention is to do downloadable content that really offers a lot of value for the player - another experience.” said Ben Mattes, Producer.
