Team Fortress 2 - EPIC Updates Coming!

hwg.jpg

If you thought the Pyro update was exhausting, wait till the Heavy update gets here. Not only will you get 3 new weapons and 35 new achievements but also a NEW gameplay mode with 5 maps, a NEW Payload map and a custom community map. All we can say is Hell yeah!

We’ve been a little quiet for the last week as we’ve put the finishing touches on the Heavy update. We thought the Pyro pack was the biggest we’d be doing for a while, due to the large changes to the Pyro, but the Heavy update has turned out to be even bigger. In addition to the three unlockable weapons and thirty-five achievements for the Heavy, we’ve got a new game mode with five new arenas for it, a new Payload map focusing on more open spaces than Goldrush, and another popular community-made map. Throughout the rest of the week we’ll be giving you the details on all this, and if all goes well, you’ll have your hands on it shortly afterwards.

The community-made map included in the Heavy update is cp_steel, by Jamie ‘Fishbus’ Manson. After the Pyro update we received a lot of email telling us how wrong we were in our choices, and cp_steel was an easy next choice due to the way it dominated the suggestions. If you’re firing up your email right now to tell us that we never get anything right, please include suggestions of what map(s) we should be looking at next.

Make sure to check out the Heavy Update site as well.

I Am Alive - Announced

2109830208_bce0ff3cb3_o.jpg

Ubisoft played smarts with Assassin’s Creed, hype a title with a pretty face next to it and you’re sure to get attention even if the game itself was mediocre. Putting that aside, Ubisoft (or Jade Raymond) has announced their latest project; I Am Alive. Even though the title is NOT being developed by Ubisoft, it’s a project of Jade Raymond. Her involvement in the title is unknown at this point, though we’d reckon it’s limited to giving to 1,000 interviews and doing PR work. More details in E3 2008.

Set after an earthquake hits Chicago, I Am Alive is being labelled a “survival game”, with a few major differences from the typical “survival-horror” titles we’ve been seeing waves of recently. You won’t be trapped in the dark, beating up masses of scary things with great big weapons - instead, it’s more like a first-person adventure title, with a low emphasis on weapons.

Crysis Wars Unveiled

crysis-warhead-ss2.jpg

According to EA Store, Crysis: Warhead will also contain Crysis Wars. A new multiplayer component that comes with new vehicles/weapons and gameplay modes. Would Crysis Wars/Warhead suffer the same piss-poor after-sales support that Crysis did? Only time will tell.

  • Pulse-racing new installment from 2007’s PC Game of the Year*: Play as Sergeant Sykes and experience a whole new side of the battle. A standard combat mission behind enemy lines becomes critical when you discover your enemies have captured something of vital importance to the ensuing war. It’s down to you to retrieve the cargo, at any cost.
  • More explosive and dynamic minute to minute game play: new customizable weapons, new vehicles, new photorealistic locations to explore, and a fully interactive war zone to dominate.
  • Enhanced human and alien AI: Intelligent enemies, bigger challenges, and all-new ally squad support.
  • Includes Crysis Wars®, an expanded new multiplayer experience with new online modes and 21 maps including seven all-new maps to battle it out against other players.
  • Crysis Warhead is a standalone release and does not require ownership of Crysis to play.

Shacknews has the full scoop on the upcoming Pyro achievements/unlocks. Pyro will be getting three new weapons; Flare Gun, Backburner and Axtinguisher. As with medic achievements, you’ll unlock them as you complete 12/24/35 achievements.

Check out the weapon details below:

Flare Gun:

This’ll be the first unlock (after you complete 12 achievements) and is able to light people on fire from a great distance. However, it’ll require steady aim.

The first Pyro unlockable is The Flare Gun, which replaces the shotgun. It allows the Pyro to ignite an enemy at long range, but does require careful aim on their part. It’s particularly useful for causing havoc on Snipers and Engineers who want to keep their distance. Read more
