Ah our good old friends at Epic, notorious for atrocious statements and one-dimensional thickheaded Game Designers, so far, we know Epic’s stance on everything from fucking a girl to how they perceive PC gaming. But what about their opinions on used game sales? Epic’s President Michael Capps chimes in and expounds;

I’ve talked to some developers who are saying “If you want to fight the final boss you go online and pay USD 20, but if you bought the retail version you got it for free”. We don’t make any money when someone rents it, and we don’t make any money when someone buys it used - way more than twice as many people played Gears than bought it…

Ignition Entertainment Licenses Unreal Engine 3.0

Ignition Entertainment is the latest studio to acquire an Unreal Engine 3.0 license to use in their upcoming multi-platform “groundbreaking” FPS.

T-Entertainment Licenses Unreal Engine 3

More licensing revenue for Epic games as a Korean developer has bought a license for their upcoming MMO; L2.

Seoul-based T-Entertainment today announced that it has licensed Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 for an upcoming project codenamed L2, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).

While staying true to the roots of T-Entertainment’s previous MMORPGs, Laghaim and Last Chaos, L2 draws on elements from role-playing (RPG) and real-time strategy (RTS) games, and can be described as “futuristic fantasy with a taste of space opera.” L2 is being developed for PC, and is scheduled for a worldwide release in 2010. SEGA gets Unreal

SEGA has renewed the license for Unreal 3.0 engine and plans to use it on a yet-to-be-announced upcoming cross-platform title. Oh goody! Even more color-less environments and brown trees!

SEGA of America today announced that it has extended its relationship with Epic Games by signing a new Unreal Engine 3 licensing deal for an unannounced, cross-platform game. SEGA entered into its original licensing agreement to develop multiple titles with Unreal Engine 3 in May 2007. Details of the project in development will be released at a later date.

“The great capabilities of Unreal Engine 3 make it possible for our developers to deliver incredible gaming experiences,” said Dave Cobb, Vice President of Development for SEGA of America, Inc. “Unreal Engine 3 provides superior power and flexibility enabling SEGA to bring original and exciting next-generation multi-platform titles.” Read more

Avalon Style Licenses Unreal Engine 3

Yet another developer has decided to go the Unreal way and use Epic’s Unreal Engine 3.0 in their upcoming title.

Avalon Style Entertainment, one of Russia’s leading developers of interactive entertainment, today announced that it has licensed Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 to develop the latest installment in its popular “4×4 Off Road” off-road driving simulation series for PC, Xbox 360™ and PLAYSTATION®3. “4х4 Off Road III” (international title, “Off Road Drive”), will be published by 1C Company, a top Eastern and Central European publisher.

EA Extends Deal with Epic Games, Plans to Use Unreal 3.0 Engine In More Than 5 Upcoming Titles

Electronic Arts Inc. and Epic Games, Inc. today announced that they have expanded their current license agreement. Under the terms of the new agreement, EA will have the right to incorporate the Unreal Engine 3 in more than five upcoming titles currently under development. EA’s original Unreal Engine 3 license agreement was signed in 2006, and this new agreement reflects EA’s confidence in the Unreal Engine by providing EA development teams with industry-leading tools and technologies to best serve the needs of each game.

“We’re obviously an Unreal Engine 3 licensee and he just came in for a visit and said ‘oh my god, I can’t believe you’re working on this, it looks phenomenal’. That was it; it wasn’t anything particularly formal, he came in to say hello to his licensees and was blown away by it. That was great for us.”
