Randy Pitchford of Gearbox Software talks about the team-work aspect in Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway. Excerpt below:

Randy Pitchford: Brothers in Arms introduced a new way to think about working with a squad. The goal from the beginning is about accessibility – about making the interface work for you intuitively. For Hell’s Highway, we’ve taken some time since the last Brothers in Arms games to think about how the system can work better and to listen to players who have loved what we did and have challenged us to go even farther. This culminates to the best Brothers in Arms game ever made – by a wide margin.

No Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway PC Demo?

It appears that Gearsoft themselves realise the mediocrity of Hell’s Highway as Randy Pitchford is uncertain whether PCs will see a demo:

We are 100 per cent certain there will be a demo for Xbox 360, 99 per cent certain there will be a demo for PS3, and about 50 per cent certain there will be a demo for PC

Brothers In Arms: Hell’s Highway Demo Coming Soon

Speaking at Ubidays 08 with Videogamer.com, Randy Pitchford of Gearbox Software has confirmed a demo for their upcoming FPS; Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway. The release date for the demo is unsure, but the retail version is set to ship out in August 2008.

“We’ve had Brothers in Arms games before,” he said. “People know what the brand is about. In general we’ve got a reasonable amount of trust. There’s a lot of people who know that they want the game and they’re just tired of waiting and they want us to get it out as soon as possible so we’re focusing on that. But there are some other folks who might be new to us, they don’t know if they should trust us yet or maybe they haven’t played a Brothers in Arms game before. We’ll get around to a demo for them and we’ve got it in our plans for that.”

Gearbox software’s CEO, Randy Pitchford has defended their decision to go the in-game adveritising route. Pitchford posted an entry on the Gearbox Community website, here’s a snip:

I’d like to take the time to shed more light on the announcement that Gearbox and Double Fusion are partnering to consider connecting advertising with our games. Some gamers have voiced their concern, and I want to set the record straight about this announcement.

We respect any contempt for exploitive advertising that negatively effects the integrity or the quality of the game because we, as hardcore gamers, share that same contempt. If anything, that’s a big understatement. I’ll say it again: We hate exploitive advertising that doesn’t offer value to the gamer.

We partnered with Double Fusion because we believe they approach this kind of thing with the right attitude and because we wanted to be in control of these kinds of decisions for some of our games. It is important for us to ensure that we’re able to keep our artistic interests in mind and that our gamer customers’ interests are cared for.
