Deus Ex Developer Hates Consolization

What do Eido’s Jean-Francois Dugas and PC Gamers have in common? Well, both of them hate consolization! Jean-Francois Dugas, in an Interview with EDGE, has expounded on “dumbing down” features and how they plan to keep the game to it’s roots while still tweaking the gameplay and design.
But he said developer Eidos Montreal would not attempt to dumb down the much-loved RPG-shooter franchise. “At this point we don’t know exactly which platforms we’re going to be out on. The PC, we’ll be there for sure. But for us, console-isation isn’t about dumbing down features. If we’re to go console we will want to keep the complexity alive. We want the menu interface and controller to feel simple without risking any of their potential”
Deus Ex 3: First Details Arrive

The first details of Deus Ex 3 have arrived and what do you know it, the title seems to have gotten the good ol’ dose of consolification.
In essence, it looks and sounds fantastic. The art direction is a beautiful meld of the renaissance and cyberpunk (tying into the game’s Leonardo Da Vinci motif) and is going for a lot more stylised look than the sort of game that comes from the Unreal Engine cookie-cutter.
Let’s be optimistic, and maybe, just maybe, it won’t be a trainwreck like everyone is expecting it to be.

Mirror’s Edge on PC Delayed

DICE’s promising shooter-cum-adventure title has been pushed back on the PC side of things and will be available later this Winter. The console version, however, will see a release in November.
The PC version of Mirror’s Edge will ship later in the winter.
Call of Duty 6, Coming 2009

Call of Duty 5 isn’t even out yet and the lizards at Activision have already unveiled plans for Call of Duty 6. The title will be developed by Infinity Ward (following the company’s flip-flop strategy) and will hit retail next year (?) Everything else is unknown at this point. It would be interesting to see if Infinity Ward sticks to Modern-theme or goes back to the World War era.
Far Cry 2 Collector’s Edition Comes in a Fancy Wooden Box

Epic and EA Become Publishing Buddies

Electronic Arts has signed a one-game publishing deal with Epic Games. The unannounced title is being developed by Epic Game’s People Can Fly Studios (The guys behind Painkiller) and will be available on PC, PS3 and Xbox360.
“Epic is a legendary studio that is synonymous with quality and EA Partners jumped at the chance to team up with them on the launch of their next blockbuster IP,” said David DeMartini, senior vice president and general manager, EA Partners.

The gimpy title Velvet Assassin has gotten it’s very own web presence as Gamecock has launched the official Velvet Assassin website. Gamecock has also released new screens as well as PC packshot for the title. Check it all out after the break.
Gamecock Media Group, in conjunction with Replay Studios, announced that it has launched the official website for the upcoming stealth action game Velvet Assassin. The site is now live at www.velvetassassin.com. Velvet Assassin will be released on Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows-based PC when it releases this winter.
