Fallout 3 Not “Dumbed down” for consoles

In an interesting interview with Next-Gen, Bethesda Softworks’s Emil Pagliarulo (Fallout 3 lead designer) had a handful of things to say regarding the recent developer spree of dumbing down titles to appeal to a larger audience.

It’s funny. I look at Fallout when I play it every day, and I sometimes think that there’s a lot of old-school hardcore PC stuff in there too, and part of me thinks, “God, is this too inaccessible for console players?” There’s a lot of dialogue to read, a lot of just hacking computers and looking through things like “VAT.” I don’t know. Sometimes I think it’s just the opposite. So I don’t feel like we’re dumbing down the franchise.

…I think we’re starting to find that there is a market for [hardcore "PC RPGs" on consoles]. People like myself and some people that work here actually grew up as hardcore PC guys, and now we’re older, we have kids, we don’t have that much time, so we’ve transitioned. We’re console players now.

Peter Molyneus is a man with opinions. ofcourse, most of those opinions are always far fetched lies, but still, they are opinions! Fable creator had a handful of things to say during an interview with Shacknews. Here’s a snip:

“I think the PC is just reinventing itself… It’s being owned more and more by casual gamers, who are playing games from a variety of sites. They are really under the radar at the moment, but there’s… an awful lot of people playing Flash games”.

According to Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision, Starcraft II may finally be the game that propells in-game advertising to next level. Kotick had a handful things to say at Morgan Stanley Technology Conference. Here’s a snippet:

“What we’ve realized is that [there is] the opportunity [in] just taking the institutional knowledge that exists at Blizzard,” Kotick stated. “For example, how do we take Guitar Hero, which is the best-selling game that we’ve ever had, and take that to Korea, or take that to China, and be thoughtful about it. These guys have so much institutional expertise about how you’ve got to market in these territories.”
