EA Done With Shitfest Licensed Games

At last, EA released how their slaughtered licensed games were a waste of everyone’s time. EA’s CEO himself has admitted that EA will now stop with their perpetual line-up of “crappy” licensed titles.

John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts: I think what redeems our industry is quality, and I think we take a step back every time we take a license and exploit it with a crappy game. That’s not what we’re about.

About damn time.

Randy Pitchford Talks, Brags about Xbox Live Gamerscore

Randy Pitchford is quickly becoming one of the more annoying personalities in video gaming industry, Following CliffyB and Peter Molyneux. Gamasutra has a long 10 page interview (cheap way to get page views….) with Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Software. Here’s a snip:

Burnout is a problem, and it can happen to anybody. Even in our studio, we’ve crunched. We care a lot about the results. Sometimes there’s the reality of, “Wow, we’re landing and we really want to make this better,” and we’re all working really hard to do that.

And sometimes, it’s really interesting how people are. We’re not saving the world. We’re making video games. But we tend to take a lot of pressure on ourselves, because we all want to do a good job. For some people, that’s a real problem, so things like burnout and disillusionment can happen.

It’s important that we try and remember why we’re doing it, and get back to playing games. Play the games and try to find ways that we can enjoy the process of making them.

Unreal Tournament 3: 40million pirates attempted to play online

Here’s something interesting: According to Mark Rein, CEO of Epic Games, 40million pirates have tried to play UT3 online using an invalid key.

If those 40 million players actually paid the full price, it would have been nearly $2 billion more in Epic’s pocket book. That is more than the quarterly sales results from Nvidia or AMD. To add another perspective, the government lost out as well, because no sales tax is earned on pirated copies.

Whether this number is actual or made-up just to spark interest? (due to poor sales) We’d reckon it’s the latter one. Piracy is too easy of a escapegoat nowadays.

Update: Mark Rein confirmed he never said anything about the 40mil number. Rein has no idea how TGDaily got this info.

Crytek going multi-platform due to rampant Piracy

In an interview with PCPlay Magazine, CEO of Crytek; Cevat Yerli has revealed that they longer will remain PC exclusive. The rampant piracy of Crysis and the high-development costs have forced the german developer to this decision. Full quote below:

Cevat Yerli: We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that’s the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy.  To the degree PC Gamers that pirate games inherently destroy the platform. Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more. It was a big lesson for us and I believe we wont have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore.
