Another update for Valve’s Steam client:

Steam Client

  • Improved in-game overlay DirectX 8 support
  • Fixed case where Steam could use 100% of a CPU if your Friend was playing a game your client did not know about
  • Fixed rare case where the client could not establish a connection
  • Fixed Javascript URLs from being stored in the browser’s History
  • Fixed Friends crash
  • Fixed Friends notifications of “you are blocking” and “you have been blocked by” being reversed

Valve’s Steam to get New Features, Dubbed Steam Cloud

At the recent press event, Valve has revealed plans to add lots of new and exciting features to Steam over the upcoming months. One of the most striking features is dubbed Steam Cloud; A feature that lets users access their save games/game generated data from anywhere using Steam.

All of the data will be transferred to Steam’s back-end once users connect to the service.

Steam Cloud will be rolled out first in existing Valve titles Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Counter-Strike will soon support the feature, and the upcoming Left4Dead will ship with it.

More additions include:

  • Deathcam Screenshots for Team Fortress 2
  • Recorded Demo files

Near future additions:

  • Auto-updating
  • System Requirements checker
  • Community Calender function
  • Official game communities
  • Localized game pricing
  • Shopping Cart

After the BETA, final version of Valve’s Steam client has been released. Features include:

Steam Client

  • Enabled ClearType fonts if they are enabled in Windows
  • Improved in-game status and play time tracking for games with launcher apps
  • Improved in-game overlay input handling in a variety of games that previously did not capture or block keyboard input correctly
  • Added D3D10 support to the in-game overlay
  • Made voice chat requests ignored if you’ve blocked communications from the caller
  • Fixed the original Half-Life not getting to 100% complete downloading when it should
  • Improved server selection logic for Friends and VAC server connections
  • Improved Steam network connectivity in the face of dropped UDP packets
  • Fixed the overlay not recognizing the Tab key in some games (breaking the default hot-key)
  • Improved Friends duplicate name collision detection

To apply the update, restart your Steam client.

Silkroad Online gets a new expansion

Silkroad Online, the popular MMMORPG is getting a new expansion; named Legend III Roc Mountain, the new expansion will give players a new area to play around, alongside an increase level-up cap, new monsters, new items and new quests.

Race Driver: GRID PC Demo Released

After the one day delay, Codemasters have released the playable PC demo for Race Driver: GRID.

Offering 3 events to compete in. The eBay Motors Muscle Cup sees you taking the wheel of a Ford Mustang GT-R and the streets of San Francisco, the Advan International Trophy hands you a Nissan S15 Silvia and your playground is Yokohama Docks, and the Euro Touring Car Series provides some old-school tin-top thrills with a BMW 320si touring car and the sweeping curves and hairpins of Jaram.

Race Driver: GRID PC Demo Delayed

A demo of Codemaster’s Race Driver: GRID was due this week, however, the PC version of the demo has been pushed back. No clarifications regarding the delay have been made.
